You've made a great choice - Dubai is one of the world's leading education destinations, and an amazing city to base yourself in while you study.
There's no end of exciting things to do and places to discover, so you'll never be bored. But remember, although Dubai is a multi-cultural destination, with people of over 200 nationalities living here, it is also a place with very deep traditions that you should be aware of and respect.

Getting around
Be sure to get your Nol card as soon as you arrive in town - it gives you access to the full Dubai Metro and public bus network. With taxis being quite expensive, public transport is clean, efficient and definitely the best way to travel!
When using the Dubai Metro be sure to use the correct cabin. The Metro has fancy 'Gold' carriages (more expensive, and requiring a special ticket) as well as cabins for women and children only. Travelling in the wrong cabin can lead to an expensive fine - check before you get on!
Local customs
The United Arab Emirates is a traditional Muslim country with some laws and customs that may be different to your home country. Be careful about the following things to avoid embarrassment or upsetting your host nation:
No public displays of affection, with anyone, regardless of gender or relationship status.
No public drinking, swearing, being loud or making rude gestures - not even between friends
Always dress modestly, especially on public transport, in less touristy areas and if you are attending a local festival.
